Aunafunds Scholarship Program
Rural Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship Program
Awo-Omamma United in North America (AUNA) is proposing the implementation of a scholarship program aimed at supporting talented students from poor but deserving families in Awo-Omamma, ORU East LGA, Imo State, in Southeastern Nigeria. This is a Rural Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship Fund, with the objective of assisting in the education of the nurses/midwives who are from Awo-Omamma.
Problem Statement: Child and infant mortality rates in Nigeria are more than twice higher in the rural areas compared to the urban centers. Maternal mortality during birth is also high in these rural communities, like Awo-Omamma. These problems can be attributed to a shortage of trained medical personnel, especially nurses and midwives. The inability of students to fund their education, leading to inability to complete their nursing programs, is primarily the cause of the lack of trained nursing personnel. Offering scholarships to achieve successful training is a practical solution that AUNA has identified. The scholarship fund will work with community members to identify nursing students to receive tuition and living expenses for the nursing program at national universities and colleges. After certification, graduates will serve as nurses in their communities.
This scholarship fund has the potential for long-term impact because the trained nurse returns to serve Awo-Omamma, with skills, compassion, and a unique perspective on the challenges that face the town. Producing five nurses annually who are recipients of this scholarship program would not only alleviate their economic hardships but also contribute to the delivery of high-quality health service to individuals, families, communities and society.
Scholarships Program Components: Scholarships will be awarded to selected students to cover their tuition fees, educational materials, transportation costs, and other necessary expenses.
The scholarship amount will be: $3,000 per student, per year
Mentorship and Guidance: To ensure holistic development, the scholarship program will provide mentorship and guidance to the recipients. Mentors will be assigned to each student to provide academic support, career counseling, and personal development guidance.
Uplifting communities
